Take about 125'000 pictures, then position XnViewMP to display them. At about 66% of all pictures XnViewMP took about 64GiB RAM, bringing the system nearly to halt. The system did not crash, but it just did not do anything anymore either until it was reset.
Calculating afterwards how much memory was exhausted per picture I found 700kb. Maybe some memory leak?
XnViewMP 1.7.1 on Linux Ubuntu 23.10 and 24.04 with 125'000 pictures sized 4K.

you need to uncheck 'Settings>Thumbnail - Create for whole folder'
