(1) When batch editing the embedded IPTC fields for jpg they write correctly and is viewable by other programs that can see IPTC (Print/Press agency photo ingestion, Photo Mechanic, Adobe Bridge). But when individually editing IPTC and [Edit IPTC-IIM>Options>mode=IPTC only], it only edits the fields in the Db (so it shows up with XnView), but not the actual embedded IPTC fields in the jpg. You have to have [Options>mode=IPTC, update or create XMP] for it to actually edit the IPTC.
I do not use the XMP sidecar (because the sidecar can cause problem with some agencies, i.e. the local papers media server is very finicky) and don't have the [update or create XMP sidecar] checked in the settings. So, it does not create a XMP sidecar. The problem is, in a year from now I will have forgotten [Edit IPTC-IIM>Options>mode=IPTC only] causes a problem and will change the mode. Then the pain and time to figure out how I broke the IPTC.
Also:
(2) When you use the [Import and Sort] and apply a IPTC template it wipes the camera image ratings.
(3) When you have ftp or sftp servers mapped (using windows), they show up in the XnView's file tree. But you can't drag and drop images to them. Either it is incredibly slow, or the progress bar just sits there until it times out (the most likely outcome). Why is XnView not just using the systems (file explorer) protocol? [Send by FTP] doesn't work with any of the FTP servers I've ever used and there is no SFTP/SSH.
Just wanting to improve XnView. I think it is a better program than Photo Mechanic and way more user friendly. You're almost there to totally kicking Photo Mechanics butt.
