OpenStreetMap vs. Google Maps quality

I've inserted this line to use OSM OpenStreetMap in [GPS] tab:

gpsProvider=osm

I can view OSM map at only little scale (city, for example), or little more.
If I zoom the map, at certain level the map disappear.
With Google Maps, I don't have this problem and I can view street and house.

Q: Is it possible to use OSM at the quality of Google Maps?
