Strange, i've tried your script, but can't reproduce. Could you send me the input & output sample file?

in your script, 'preserve metadata' is not enabled?

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
It newer was checked and it worked correctly. I have tested it with metadata checked and unchecked with the same result
Let me make a few more tests. I just resized one in place and it kept the categories

I closed the program then renamed the xnview.ini and restarted. I added some categories then batch moved the file. The categories were gone even with "preserve metadata" checked

But do you have changed "settings>Metadata>Export category to ..." before to set some categories? Else categories are not written in the file.
I've tried with clean .ini, change metadata setting, convert the attached image with your 'Art 800 px.xbs' (i've enabled preserve metadata), and the output has XMP metadata

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
Here is what I have set. I never had "preserve metadata" set in the batch converter and it worked fine until 0.98.4xnview wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 9:00 am But do you have changed "settings>Metadata>Export category to ..." before to set some categories? Else categories are not written in the file.

I never had the import function set (I did do it as a suggestion and it imported tons of categories that ruined my category structure ... Yeas I should have had a backup

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
Could you try with 0.98.3, and send me the output?
I don't understand why you have not XMP metadata in the output file...

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
I could not reproduce in earlier versions. I had changed from an installed version to a portable so too many things have changed for any testing to be meaningful
I can resize with the batch converter and the categories are preserved. IF I resize and MOVE, is when the categories are stripped
Perhaps I should make a feature request?

I use the batch converter to resize files and move to another folder

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
it's not really a 'move'. I've tried with your sample file (which has XMP metadata), and the output file has too XMP metadata (and EXIF too).

Re: MP 0.98.4 Batch Converter strips Categories
Well I don't know what you call it but if I resize only, assigned categories stay
If I resize and put itin another folder the categories are stripped out
