image disappears when filename is changed

Post by sdan »

XnView, unlike say Photoshop, removes a graphic from display if the saved file is deleted. That's true even if the image being displayed is not the same as the deleted file, and isn't using the file for anything. For instance if a high-quality image is saved as a lower-quality JPG, it will keep displaying the higher quality original graphic. If the lower-quality JPG is then deleted, XnView will stop displaying the image even though it is not depending on that file for anything. That JPG is not the image that XnView is holding in memory, so why does it stop displaying the image? Just a little quirk.

Not consistent with the behavior of other software. Maybe there's a reason for it. But I think it would be better if XnView MP just ignored what happens with filenames.

Anyway, XnView MP is great.
