0.35 on OpenSuse / Gnome won't start

Post by ania »

Hi,

Tried to start Xnview 0.35 (normal, x64 and glibc versions) on OpenSuse 11.4 / Gnome 2.32.1 , but it won't.

Code: Select all

ania@linux-piy2:~/XnView/XnViewMP-035-64> xnview

The libQtWebKitXn.so.4 library theoretically is there (in the lib folder).

May be related to this problem? But other distribution:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=22869
I did as said in the thread:

Code: Select all

strace ./xnview.sh |& grep -i libqt | grep -v XnViewMP
but nothing happened.

Could you try to add these libs in lib folder?

I have similar problem:

When I click on the icon of XN view, appears new small narrow window called XnView, but I can't do anything with it. even maximize it.
I'm afraid I made any mistake during installation. I'm lama, read many forums but understand nothing.
I read somewhere that the XN was a part of Suse distro, but I haven't found it there...

I use OpenSuse 1.4, 64-bit, Kernel 2.6.37, gnome, I installed XnView-static-fc4.i386.rpm

Thanks

Hi Maffersdorf,
You have a 64 bits OS,
So, you have to install the 64 bits version of XnviewMP ...

Also, The 64 Bits version is " broken" on some machine, you have to donwload library ( http://download.xnview.com/XnViewMP-lin ... alib64.tgz) & put them on the lib directory of XnviewMP...

Or also, you can wait few weeks for the new version 0.38 (where the library problem will maybe solved, normaly)

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I downloaded the XnView-x86-unknown-linux2.x-static-fc4.tgz. Previous download was really stupid mistake. As written above, I'm greenhorn with the Linux. Do you know any link on instruction, how to install the application in Suse, if the unpacked tgz is not the rpm? The same problem would be also by the library you've recommend.

Thanks in advance

If you 3 possibility to use this software :

1) install it via you Linux distribution if someone was already created a package for it
2) download package for here : http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=21616 ; then decompresse the archive & launch xnview.sh script. If it's not work, also download the extra library ( url on this topic) & extract-it on the directory lib of xnview (where you have decompresse the xnview ) : that all
3) Download the windows version & run-it via the wine emulator

Hi,

thank you again for your advice.

I did, what you suggested:
- Downloaded XnViewMP-linux-x64.tgz,
- added missing unpacked libraries in the folder lib
- tried by fila manager to launch xnview.sh. Appeared option window: "run" or "run with terminal". First option did nothing, the other started terminal, some processes were running but than within 1 second the window disappeared but XN wasn't installed.

Tu run under WINE is the last option.

I will be very grateful if you suggest any solution or if you tell me, what do I do wrong.

I think, there must be mistake in the rpm. If you open the download section http://www.xnview.com/en/downloadunix.html, you find there title "Linux x86", but the rpms are called like "i386", after installation and launch by terminal, appears this:

** XnView v1.70 Copyright 1991-2005 Pierre-E Gougelet (Sep 6 2005/15:28:24) **
Version for Linux x86/Motif (All rights reserved)
** This is freeware software (for non commercial use)

So 64-bit version??

Anyway the rpms are not working.

So are the rpms for 64-bit or 32-bit. For lama like me it's very confusing.

Thanks for any hint or advice.
