MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
When viewing an animated GIF, the frame count does not update while it animates. Pressing next/prev page button causes the animation to stop, which is fine as expected, but then pressing next file and prev file does not restart the animation. A workaround is to close the tab and reopen the file from browser.

Ok, to restart animation, i'll add it
For frame index, is it useful?

Hello !
• The bug is still present in the 0.38, as budz45 describes it above… :
- The frame number isn't changed at all when the animation is running,
- It changes using Prev. ¦ Next page buttons (but there the animation stops, and a single frame by frame is shown),
- No way to restart it simply with a command¦key press

Re: MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
Wait just a sec...
Ok, I've found the setting for this feature that Pierre added. See this below screenshot of where it is in MP 0.38:
..Ok so I guess the command is just internal for now.
EDIT:
Clo is still correct, in that (even still now in 0.38) if you press next/prev file of the directory and come back to same animated GIF again then the animation is still in 'stop' mode, no playing, instead of playback automatically restarting. So this is another bug.
Now all that is needed is a toolbar icon for this a.k.a 'Multipage' icon, read my topic; http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=21385 (Mezich has already designed the icon for 'multipage')

Hello !
• Ah, right, I found it too, it works… BUT :
-1. That isn't handy…
-2. Here in French, that menu item is not translated (yet).

Re: MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
I know, which is why I originally requested a 'Multipage' icon for the toolbar and this designed icon has already been completed by mezich - although that is not another issue, sorry to go off-topic.Clo wrote: budz45

Should be hopefully sorted by next betaClo wrote: -2. Here in French, that menu item is not translated (yet).
Currently this function (start/stop animation) is a little buggy.

Right there are two current issues I've noticed of this in 0.38.xnview wrote:Please check XnViewMP 0.38
BUG #1
To reproduce:
1.) Load an animated GIF file in MP 0.38 (my test ani GIF had 5 frame pages)
2.) Go to menu and stop the animation ('Start/stop animation')
3.) Make sure it's stopped
4.) Now press 'next file', just once, to go to another image file in the same directory
5.) Now press 'prev file' to comeback to same animated GIF
6.) Notice how animation is still stopped, instead of automatically playing again.
7.) Also, Sadly, the 'start/stop animation' becomes greyed out meaning I can't use it. So I then have to resort to closing the tab of the GIF and then opening the same file again from 'recent files'. This is not good.
BUG #2
There is a bug with the frame count display on the status bar.
To reproduce:
1.) Load an animated GIF file in MP 0.38 (my test ani GIF had 5 frame pages)
2.) Simply press 'start/stop animation' to stop the animation
3.) The precise frame number that it has been stopped on, in the status bar, is not displaying correctly (it seems). It's just displaying first frame number; for example. '1/5' (my test ani GIF had 5 frame pages).
4.) However, if I click on the 'View' menu drop-down, just after stopping animation, then the precise frame number immediately displays up on the status bar. So this is a little UI bug.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is that same test Animated GIF I used: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So these two bugs need fixing here.

Ok, I understand, but why does the stopped frame number begin to display in status bar after I click on the 'View' drop-down menu on menu bar? It's not a big issue just a little funny.xnview wrote:Is it useful to change frame number??budz45 wrote:budz45 wrote: BUG #2

Re: MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
The beauty of this Start/Stop feature is that it allows instantaneous pausing of an animation at any particular frame while not interfering with the original disable animation option in the MP Settings. Fantastic. Thank you Pierre.
As well as probable toolbar icon, a hotkey might too arrive for this feature soon, fingers crossedClo wrote: -1. That isn't handy…

Re: MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
Right, in MP 0.38.2 this frame number issue is resolved as in the frame number stopped will display.BUG #2
Unfortunately, there is another small bug with greyed out 'start/stop' menu item like before:
reproduce;-
1.) Download the same above animated GIF (the smiley) and load it in MP 0.38.2
2.) Right, now Stop the animation as normal using the 'start/stop'
3.) Now while animation is stopped, click on 'next page' a number of times until you reach last page
4.) Now try to start the animation again by using the 'Start/Stop' feature. You can't. The menu to it is greyed out again.
yes from testing, this latest bug is definitely related to clicking on that last icon page ("5/5")

Re: MP 0.35 Win: GIF Animation Not Restarting
Right,
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MP 0.38.3 - Weird, now animation of GIF files (when loading one after the other via drag n drop) is sometimes not starting at all in this build of MP and the start/stop command is totally disabled.
in 0.38.3, to reproduce;
1.) Drag n drop any animated GIF into MP viewer, like this one or smiley above.
2.) If the animation does play as normal, now just 'stop' the animation and wait about 1 minute
3.) Now Drag n drop another different animated GIF into same MP viewer tab. Does it play? If not can you see that start/stop is disabled too
Possibly a per-Tab related issue, I guess ....Because if I load an animated GIF from "recent files" with that image opening in anew tab, animation starts as normal in that separate new tab.
I tried these other animated GIF's too

Dearest apologies about this. Bugs can be a nightmare in apps.
