database corruption and non-image files

Post by homer »

problems:
1. You can put non-image files into categories now, but you can't remove them. The only way to put them into a category is with a right-click submenu, which doesn't have options to remove them from the category (like check marks which can be toggled).
2. There are no properties that can be viewed or edited for non-image files (like a pdf), even in the info pane.
3. The properties change correctly in the info pane when going from one image to another image, but not if one of the files is non-image.
4. Trying to remove a pdf file from a category, I tried the "edit IPTC/XMP" from the right click submenu, then "category" tab, then "clear". This corrupted the database and crashed the program. Each time I reopened xnview and navigated to that directory, it crashed. I found no way to rebuild the database. I finally deleted the database file, which allowed me to start fresh so it wouldn't crash.

ideas:
1. If possible, have "rebuild database" and "compact database" tools, for databases that become corrupted or bloated.
2. Show a "properties" tab and "categories" tab for all file types in the "Info pane", not just image files with editable metadata.
3. After selecting an individual file, on the right click submenu, allow category check marks which can be toggled.

Thanks for the good work.
