yes I have found the best way to hope the categories are applied is to select a few photographs, then click in blank space so the keywords can be applied..
If they do not get applied I try selecting and unselecting but they can not be written..
I just did some more testing got excited because quite a few had been applied parent and sub categories correctly,,..
I then created a new parent and subcategory selected a few photographs , did exactly the same steps as before but only the parent gets written to the files and no subcategories..

yes I have tried with that selected and unselected,.. what I have just tried is updating the exiftool file with the latest,, this seemed a little bit better actually!
BUT i am still having subcategories that are not being recognized. I am going to try subcategories without any blank spaces in the name and also try the iptc encoding format to see if it might help.. thanks
