Running XMP on Ubuntu Karmic (9.10 -- and on 9.04 before that) seems to work great. The one problem I have is that it refuses to read networked directories. The top directory of any network share appears in in the XMP folder tree, but there's no "plus" to expand for more folders, and if I change to that directory, the contents are not displayed -- only the ".." directory up button.
Any way that I can troubleshoot this?
(Other than that, things are looking good!)

Yes. If I do "df" I can see the mounted shares.

Re: XMP .21 on Linux won't read networked directories
The problem shares are on a NAS mounted as CIFS in FSTAB.
I tried browsing directly to a networked Windows XP machine, through Ubuntu's equivalent of "Network Neighborhood", and was able to successfully view images in the directory. (Could also browse the directory from MP's location history dropdown.
Properties of the directory show location to be "smb:// ..." and FS type to be CIFS.
I have had no problems with any other applications accessing the NAS shares for a number of different filetypes: images, audio, documents, etc.
The only thing that I see in the FSTAB share entreies for the network shares that might give different results than browsing a Windows box directly, is this: "iocharset=utf8", since as far as I know NTFS doesn't support UTF-8 characters. (There AREN'T any UTF-8 characters in the directories I'm trying to browse, though.)
