Hi.
Did any od us thought about great idea: loupe/zoom on thumbnail inside it own area? For much effective selecting.
Example: Browser view, and 6 bigger thumbails (2 lines with 3 pics), without side preview. Quick look at six propositions, and hold attention on at possibly best one photo.. and we can press mouse button on it to zoom in and check if focus is ok.. check/tag and load next pack of 6 photos.. this is much quicker method for selecting photos. By quick look, pick one, check, tag, next load.
Classic using side preview to check focus or quality of photo is much slower and produce distractions, more mouse moves, moving attention to other place, mind focus again etc. But with focus inside thumbnail area, many problems dissappear and selecting is faaaast. Selecting by composition, moment for better stories.
How did famous photographers made selection in the past - they check contact sheets. Small index previews to do it quick. Similar as current thumnail grid in XN. They focused especially on decisive momens, composition.
Look at famous book "Magnum: Contact Sheets" how it was done.
OK, this not new - Photomechanic browser has something similar. It can switch to loupe mode and thumbain can be watched at pop-up preview 100% into half of the screen. Not inside thumbnail area, but on bigger area. This is good too. Loosing mouse button and 100% preview dissappears and again we see thumbnails grid. Tested. And I can say, this is so so sooo good!
