Image editing sliders almost unusable in enough situations

Post by m.Th. »

There are enough sliders/spinedits in image editing dialogs which have way too coarse steps in order to be really useful.

For example, in Image Editor, go to Image | Adjust | Enhance Colors... - or press directly Shift+E

In that editor, perhaps except Contrast, the steps for all the other sliders are too much/too big.

For example, go to Saturation (which I need(ed) many times). Already at (+/-) 4 it is way too much.

Please make the sliders to have smaller increments.

Fully agree, also the image preview (before and after) is way too small in many cases.

I take the blue line as indicating the Brightness slider...

Not sure whether m.Th means 'sliders', or the numeric value increase/decrease arrows referred to above?

Yes. It is too „coarse”. The step is very high so we cannot adjust as we wish the desired slider.

Yes, that is the „slider”. The actual value.

you are digging in the wrong place, there is absolutely no reason to add decimals here
all other apps have the same integer -+100 scale with 1 increment

as I mentioned above - the issue is in calculations
that make effect at 50points/% already unusable, other app don't have such intensity even at 99

also note:
  • slider has dynamic mid values that depends on scale length:
    - if dialog wide enough - scale increments by 1 (during dragging), it
    - if dialog shrank - scale starts to miss mid values, incrementing by 2-3-etc
  • value in textbox can be changed with mouse scroll
  • value increment can be increased x10 by holding Ctrl

Yes, internally - but in UI let us have integers. It is much easier for the users.

Ok, let us rephrase:

The UI should remain as is. But the user should put the value „10” in order to achieve the same effect with the nowadays „1”.
