Add folders thumbnails from video files
Please allow to show video thumbnails for folders same as currently showing photo thumbnails for folders.
I have many folders with video files only (no images) and when browsing with XnViewMP i have no idea to what content is there until i open folder, would be great to have thumbnails for folders that store video only files.

Re: Add folders thumbnails from video files
Recently i took on videography and thumbnails are great aid in identifying what video file contents are.
Can see file content's without need to open video in the player and can quickly find file i need to play / delete / move etc.
Example
Would be great if the folders where files reside also have thumbnails. Right now have to navigate into every folder to see what's inside.

Since i'm into Areal-photography i began to shot videos too. on the other hand i recently switched over to view all folders by XnView in "all files filtermode". that comes pretty handy, because i didnt had the time to sort/name everything right.

I only aware of View > Show files in subfolders that lists all photo and/or video files is that what you talking about?MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 10:27 am Since i'm into Areal-photography i began to shot videos too. on the other hand i recently switched over to view all folders by XnView in "all files filtermode". that comes pretty handy, because i didnt had the time to sort/name everything right.
That also works, but more videos you have more difficult to navigate it becomes if using that mode. Especially if need to find one that was taken in particular month/day.
P.S. I simply used "PhotoMove 2.5" to sort images/videos by date taken then renamed the folder to more readable format using "Bulk Rename Utility".

Re: Add folders thumbnails from video files
I knew that function, but i don't use it much.
for example:
Basefolder is 2022-08-19 Cruise Days & Blue Port, where i got sub-folders of bracketing images, edited ones, panorama, just for the video-folders the folder-thumb is blank, just as shown in your last posted picture.
thanks for hint. i already use Bulk Renamer Utility and Advanced Renamer, which has better capability for reading EXIF-Tool Tags.
basicly a video preview is needed for older stuff, thats not tagged in anyway or incorrectly.

What exactly you refer as "all files filtermode"?MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 10:27 am Since i'm into Areal-photography i began to shot videos too. on the other hand i recently switched over to view all folders by XnView in "all files filtermode". that comes pretty handy, because i didnt had the time to sort/name everything right.

Re: Add folders thumbnails from video files
Even my fresh new HDD with only 15 days of video footage contains already 337 video files navigating trough them to find one i am looking for is tough.
I like to organize files based on the day, every day i shoot different location, much more straight forward to find clips in 15 folder if they had thumbnails than scroll trough 337 video files.

Re: Add folders thumbnails from video files
If you have new shoots every day, then it's worth sorting them directly, perhaps assigning tags? Otherwise it quickly becomes confusing and difficult to find what you have in mind.
I've only had my recordings neatly sorted for 5 years, but even with that it's not always easy to find everything quickly, but XnView does a good job, especially with the video preview!
There's just the problem with the saved videos and photos from a crash, of which I don't have a complete backup. This sometimes means a lot of time and effort to separate and sift through the data. Some files have been given the wrong names and are no longer in their original size, so hash matching doesn't work. Very frustrating and tiresome task.

Re: Add folders thumbnails from video files
My idea is to identify folders by thumbnails where i can see at what location they are made, its easy for me since i travel lot and mostly make videos outdoors.
You mean assigning tags for each video file, did not know its possible in XnView thought XMP tags are for photo only.MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 6:13 pm If you have new shoots every day, then it's worth sorting them directly, perhaps assigning tags? Was the crash caused by XnView or HDD corruption?MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 6:13 pmThere's just the problem with the saved videos and photos from a crash, of which I don't have a complete backup. Videos are way harder to handle. photos are just a frame.FKCapitalism2 wrote: My idea is to identify folders by thumbnails where i can see at what location they are made, its easy for me since i travel lot and mostly make videos outdoors.
i don't know your camera-equipment, but GPS tags can get quite handy for receiving location-info to add to the filenames, generating route tracks. most helpful should be the option for rating files in large directories, like yours?FKCapitalism2 wrote: You mean assigning tags for each video file, did not know its possible in XnView thought XMP tags are for photo only.
you can add tags by right click and choose "metadata"
if you are not depended of the preview, you can take a look at mp3tag, which is able to set tags to a bunch of videos. it has some good customize able tagging options.

I don't see any option to tag MP4 file.MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 7:50 pmyou can add tags by right click and choose "metadata"FKCapitalism2 wrote: You mean assigning tags for each video file, did not know its possible in XnView thought XMP tags are for photo only.
I use my phone camera APP to record videos unfortunately it does not include GPS data, i could save GPS log on the side and perhaps later embed it in the video.MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 7:50 pmi don't know your camera-equipment, but GPS tags can get quite handy for receiving location-info to add to the filenames, generating route tracks.
Could you share more info on generating route tracks, what you mean by that?
Rating does not carry a description as to what contents are inside the video.MartinBHH80 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 7:50 pmmost helpful should be the option for rating files in large directories, like yours?
Also i assume Rating and labels are simply saved to Catalog within XnViewMP if i to delete catalog and open videos again they would not carry the rating/label anymore?
