OK a bit of wishfulness here... I always worry about data corruption.
I wonder if it's possible for XNView on saving to include a tag that provides the MD5 of the image data saved (as stored in the file)? It would also need to provide the size and TS of the save so that if another program adjusts the image data and resaves it copying the EXIF/Meta info it can spot that has happened and treat the MD5 as absent. The ability to scan a folder tree of images with options of adding (updating) MD5s absent (outdated), and of recalculating the MD5 of ones that have a valid MD5 and spot any mismatches (i.e. corruption). Any corrupt items found are an opportunity for the user to fetch a backup copy...
