Settings - catalog - UI adjustments of Excluded folders

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.4.4 64bit
Windows11 (22H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Settings > Catalog > Excluded/Included

Suggestion A
minor UI adjustments
- rename Excluded/Included to Excluded folders (or just Exclude)
- rearrange Add/Delete buttons. Also not sure why 'Delete all' is enabled if there are no folders
- rename CD/DVD to optical, since there may be a BD there and this is more consistent with the previous option
- maybe add 'Always exclude network drives' option

Suggestion B
Add system folders to excluded by default (eg WINDIR, TEMP, PROGRAMFILES, PROGRAMDATA, etc)

Examples
  • ACDSee

  • Everything

my bad, I have not expect Excluded/Included combobox there.
guess, it is better to leave this as is.

But what is the difference between:
- Import folder.. (Catalog tab), is it single time action and require 'Synchronize Folders..' to sync Catalog?
- Included folder (Excluded/Included tab), does it auto-sync Catalog with Included folder (eg every 1min)?

It imports thumbnails+information in catalog

No only add it

but what is the purpose of having folder as 'Included'?

as far as I understand how Catalog works:
- app auto adds visited folders and auto add files' data from them
- it is also possible to manually initiate this process via 'Import folder..'
- 'Excluded folders' prevents app from auto-scanning named folders and auto-adding data into Catalog
- 'Included folders'.. ?

ah.. thanks, so this is the exception to the Excluded
to make e:\foto\* treated as regular folder (image data will be automatically added to the Catalog on visit)

after revisiting this surrestion, I think it is better to rename tab to "Excluded", since:
- tab is all about excluding stuff from indexing and functionality of making exceptions from this list (Included) does not worth place in tab name.
- term 'Included' is slightly confusing as there is auto-indexing of visited folders, it would make more sence if there was an option to disable auto-indexing in favour of only manually added folders to the catalog.

but anyway this is not a big deal
