I am having several suggestions regarding xnvie, which is the best viewer and I have tried lots of them.
My use case are loads of different media files. Just to give you an idea 30k in one folder.
Here is where I would like to see improvements
1. Caching
- On startup xnview loads all thumbnails. This takes long time. Unfortunately during this startup process it is not possible to do anything with xnview. One has to sit and to wait. So there should be a way to load thumbnails quicker and as a background process.
- For thumbnail caching I would like to see better database options. When using external media, it happens that thumbnails get recreated when pluggin the drive into another computer only because a different drive letter has been assigned to it. I would prefer an addition option like Microsofts thumbs.db: A hardcoded filnema which xnview uses to store the thumbnails in the same place where the media files are. When xnview enters a folder it should always look for this thumbnail database first and only in case it is not present it should look at the other store places.
2. Thumbnail view
There is a great viewer called Compupic. It has a unique feature that I would like to see in xnview too: It offers a tree view of folders which can be marked for thumbnail viewieng. If you select them all, thumbnails of all folders get shown (like xnview show subfolders thumbnail). But with it you can select and deselect them 1 by one and only the thumbnails of the selected folders remain visible. This concept is great, as you can have loads of subfolders to organize files, but you still can see all the thumbnails you want in one place, by simply selecting the folders and all thumbnails in them get shown. This is really awesome.
3. Deleting
Somtimes deleting of files takes ages.....
I hope you can consider these suggestions for this awesome piece of software.

Re: Several suggestions
Great to hear that you might consider my suggestions.
You can see it already from the feature description: Visually browse multiple folders at once. It only shows the contents of the selected folders and you can select multiple folders at the same time. This feature is outstanding.
Now you may ask yourself why not using Compupic when I like it so much. Well I never managed to get it to work thumbnailing all media types. And there is one function in xnview which is awesome: Having a keyboard shortcut to select the application to start the file with. Sometimes it is necessary to open a file with different viewers and with xnview its a breeze.
I wish I could uninstall Microsofts Explorer and use xnview only. BTW there are file explorers which have a "Explorer replacement mode" like this one: http://www.dopus.com/help/opus10/defaul ... ement1.htm
Maybe this is something to get considered as well.
If you check out Compupic you may wanna have a look at their caching system as well. It is absolutely lightning fast. Maybe it can help to improve xnview.xnview wrote:Yes, currently XnViewMP use a better way
I have just learned that Compupic has been discontinued. Still you can check it out on their webpage: http://www.photodex.com/compupicxnview wrote: Ok, i'll check

No it seems not to depend from the number of files. Sometimes only 10 at the same time. Xnview simply sits there, doing nothing. And only after a while the files get deleted.xnview wrote: A lot of files??
