I would like to write and mantain a Gentoo Linux ebuild for easily installing XnViewMP via its Portage, but it's a problem to write a clean enough one for the main Portage tree because there is just one download location without a verion number in URL for the package which gets updated each time a new version is released. I have to be sure that, e.g, "xnviewmp-0.26_beta.ebuild" will install 0.26, and if the new version will be released, I will provide new "xnviewmp-0.27_beta.ebuild" which everyone will get with the Portage tree sync, and it will update 0.26 to 0.27.
Besides, can it be mirrored? "For commercial use and distribution, it is necessary to register", but "You are granted to make an unlimited number of copies..." (portage can do it automatically if there is no RESTRICT="mirror" in the ebuild). Is it about "commercial distribution" or "distribution at all"? Maybe, some details should be mentioned in the LICENSE ebuild variable in that case?
Request: add version number into the download path
