There is a very large Hubble image of the Carina nebula (available here) that no software (NO software) has been able to open on my 1Gb machine.
The image is a 200Mb JPG with dimensions 29,566 x 14,321!
Well, MP just opened it. It took almost a minute, but the preview appeared, and when I switched to View mode, the image displayed instantly, without having to reload!
Not only that, it zooms smoothly and pans smoothly using the tiny navigation proxy, too.
This is a significant improvement and will greatly enhance my use of XnView.
Wow, is all I can say. I've never been able to explore the Carina image before (well, the online version IS zoomable, but I like to have the file locally).
Thank you, Pierre!

Re: MP 0.21 Win: Amazing! MP opens Carina image
ouch that's about the time I took to download itWell, MP just opened it. It took almost a minute,
just for the fun I had the image opened by a few viewers...
viewer start time included (viewers were not started image was never opened by the viewers before):
1. ACDSee pro 3 quickview : first chunck of image apearing > 0.9 sec ; load completed:4 sec
2. xnviewMP : 5 sec. kudos to Pierre for the improvement vs xnview 1.96 !
3. Fast picture viewer 64 : 10 sec.
4. xnview 1.96.x : 26 sec.
5. Picasa 3 viewer : failed ! 11 sec to display but failed to zoom at 1:1 size.
results are interesting, looks like some viewer are so optimized for certain scenario that once they get pushed a bit their performance drops considerably.

2thibaud...
What sort of setup are you using for those times?
My environment is memory (too little) and disk (slow + usb 2) constrained.
Beautiful pic, though, don't you agree?

4. xnview 1.96.x : 26 sec.
