OK, another idea, two mini-toolbar buttons, one to open the menu with 5 custom sizes - pre-defined default values, then the save button. You'd select custom size 2, change it (with slider?), then save as custom (favorite) size 2. But I think the exact sizes and ARs are important, especially because of cache.
Also few custom/favorite sizes would be good if another feature request would be added - save thumbs for every custom size in background in cache, so the thumbnails would be available in all custom sizes anytime.
Suggestion - Add a customized thumbnails size option setting

Re: Suggestion - Add a customized thumbnails size option setting
As usual, I'm late to the party
I've been thinking about “adaptive thumbnail sizes” for...
The idea was that the thumbnail would span (horizontally or vertically) over more than one cell of the grid, if the dimensions of an image exceed a certain ratio (specified by the user).

- Panoramic (stitched) photos
- Screenshots of web pages
- Large format printing
- Toolbar skins

Good suggestion, in that case an overlay icon (like EXIF, IPTC, tag..) might be used.

I would like to see this for XnViewMP too.
Costumizeable thumbnail sizes would be great. 192 f.e. is too small for me, but 384 too big. Possible this feature get's in one day, would be great
(edit: Ah, there's a slider in MP, didn't saw that

This would be an awesome option and would work perfectly for a new "group by" display mode in the browser file panel, a la Picasa.the idea was that the thumbnail would span (horizontally or vertically) over more than one cell of the grid, if the dimensions of an image exceed a certain ratio (specified by the user).

The “adaptive thumbnail sizes” idea...
the idea was that the thumbnail would span (horizontally or vertically) over more than one cell of the grid, if the dimensions of an image exceed a certain ratio...
+1 I like this idea too - with a custom setting = +/- ##% of the XnView default (4/3) thumbnail ratio.
(or/and) with a custom setting = +/- ##% of the custom user thumbnail ratio (for example custom thumbs size=150x100 = 3/2).
example:
With +/- 20% for the ratio 4/3 =1.333 --> in case of : less than 1.066 or greater than 1.666
Like XnTriq said, it's usefull for Panoramic (stitched) photos, Screenshots of web pages, Large format printing, Toolbar skins, etc...

Well, this is a chance to revisit the watermark, panarama, canvas tools... still, a slider could set a max limit for [x]Adaptive

Hello,
I also like the Budz45 idea here:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 937#p82937

With some extra dispositions options to allow (or not) several settings:
1-) spacial disposition:
- free thumbnails cells disposition
- auto-arrange thumbnails by columns and rows (sort by name, sort by extension, ..., custom order,...) = current XnView setting
...and why not in the future:
- thumbnails cascade disposition
- with a carousel, a calendar disposition, etc ...
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=14400

2-) thumbnails sizing:
- free custom thumbnail size and ratio (for watermark, panorama, canvas tools) for each thumbnails - with a max. limit
- auto-sizing thumbnail (by fixed wight, by fixed height, fixed cell with ratio: XxY pixels (Thumbnails size = current XnView disposition)

PS: But it's a big work because in some cases, for each thumbnails, the custom size and the position must be saved into the data base (xnview.db)legend wrote:-- to do

Please don't forget the portrait images
For them, using the landscape thumbnails will waste a lot of screen space.
I like the old way that the users can input their custom values in the options.
I cannot find them now or is it in somewhere else?
