2thibaud... You have pointed out an implicit assumption on my part: that the histogram of any one channel would be displayed in the color of the channel. Though it is frequently done that way in histogram UIs, your confusion about my assumption is valid.
Your point about the button suggesting histogram display is also valid. That could indeed be the interpretation if the landscapes looked too much like histograms.
I like XnTriq's approach.
A silhouette of a human head might be made to work, too.
All this just points up the extraordinary difficulty in designing good icons for "technical" concepts.
That's as many hairs as I'm going to split on this topic, though.
Whatever the consensus is fine with me.

Re: channel display toolset request
i really liked what mezich did with the cube icons. I still think it is spot on.
the first line here:
here is another proposal (not as nice as the cube if you ask me) using Xntriq suggestion that might hopefully make everybody happy:
alternate (slightly more accurate representation of the rgb model) but less readable version:

Re: channel display toolset request
IMO Thibaud's last group (previous post) works well for me except for the rgba (alpha) icon. The alpha/transparency indicator (checkered background) is not prominent enough for the eye to quickly distinguish from the rgb icon.

Re: channel display toolset request
Sorry for bringing back that old thread, but this toolset would be really great to have in XnView! Can you please add it?
