If some features/behavior from XnView 1.95 are not yet in XnViewMP, you can post here

a few difference here:
.scroll wheel direction is inverted in xnviewMP - scrolling down plays previous file instead of next file.
.when exiting fullscreen view the main window does not stay maximized.
.there is no way of going full screen with middle mouse bt (wheel bt).
.there is still no way of having the zoom function on ctrl+wheel. (Though I'm not sure if that's possible in xnview yet :))

Here are a few of many:

1. Remember all Browser divider positions
2. Buttons on Browser dividers
3. Toolbar changes to happen without restart
4. Refresh button on folder toolbar
5. Basic image enhancements (Brightness, contrast, Gamma, Balance)
6. Full copy/paste/crop support.

2. Buttons on Browser dividers
Personally, I wouldn't bother with these if this is a headache to implement with qt libs.
I've never been a big fan of theses, their usability is really questionable.
I'm tempted to believe that retractable panels might be a better alternative for that purpose (cf lightroom, I know i keep on shooting unfair comparison sorry pierre ;))

Save choices---

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Hello !

• Wishes and¦or questions:
- I'ld like the choices from the View Menus saved through the sessions, especially :
¤ Colour info
a. An INI entry supporting several flags is desirable, like the 1.9xxx versions.
b. How to set the hexa code as UPPERCASE ?
c. How to change the BG¦font colours of that pop up label ? And translate the colours…
¤ Show histogram (for me it's rather Hide histogram !)
- useHisto=true is reset always even when I close the programme without the histogram…
- It's set at the start up time while the menu item is not ticked…

Wow! Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

The little splitter buttons are nearly the most important layout functionality in XnView for me. I use them continuously, unconsciously. Much more time-and-movement efficient than changing the layout configuration from the menu or mousing the splitters around.

Maybe you should use XnView 1.95 a little bit to see how productive you can be when the GUI is properly designed!

Or perhaps you are keyboard-centric?

Basic empty view…

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Hello !

• Now, starting with a file from TC works, thanks. However, whether I close the current file,
I get nothing to continue with MP, the whole stuff goes away, I can only close
- A basic "empty" View is obviously missing for those who start the programme with a file and don't wish to continue
in its folder, but elsewhere directly, without the need to pass by the browser…

Dark BG when selecting…

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Again !

• The selection itself on a pic in View looks so good, but why that "feature" making that the usual set BG colour
turns almost black ? The non-selected rest of the picture is invisible, I don't see what I'm doing…
- How to change that "unpleasant-surprise-BG" ? It's really annoying… :|

Hi Clo...

Maybe your monitor gamma is set too low? This is how the shading looks on my system.

Image

I do agree that the density of the shading should be a user option, and also the color of the outline (currently red).

Sick monitor, but---

Post by Clo »

 JohnFredC

:) Hi John !

• Well, my 17" CRT monitor is not very old (4 years) but the adjustment stuff is broken - don't ask me why- …
- Anyway, even on your pic the shade is too strong¦dark for my old¦er eyes…
…and also the color of the outline (currently red).
- Yes, I agree, the frame colour could be chosen, and better,
also an option to set MARCHING ANTS (“Marquee”) could be available…

- Support for context menus (right mouse click)
- Rotation and many other functions in image view mode (guess XnViewMP is under development, here).

+1. Also, in the options there should be a checkbox to activate and deactivate shading. Shading is mainly needed when cropping, perhaps there should be a simple way (Shortcut, ...) to turn it on and off (and not just the checkbox in the options).

Hi Pierre:

Several "random" things (which I haven't been able to pin down yet) appear to change the browser splitter positions. But here are two circumstances that aren't "random" and which you can reproduce:
  • 1. Switching layouts returns splitters to their default positions instead of to the positions the user put them in.

To reproduce this issue, position the splitters, switch to another layout, then switch back.

Each layout should remember the user-set splitter positions.

    2. Pasting the clipboard resizes the MP window to match the pasted image. This also causes the browser splitters to move. Restoring the MP window does not restore the previous splitter positions.
I'll won't be able to test further for a while, unfortunately.

Very excited about MP, looking forward to when it has everything 1.9x has in addition to the new stuff. I'll switch then.

Hello,
Here is my old list (for more information):
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?p=68877#68877

Mains all MP versions wishes (remain):
1-) If middle mouse click on preview window is done (or on thumbnails) then --> Open in Full Screen Mode, an other one --> Go back to Browser mode ( like v1.9x )
3-) Shortcut "/" is missing for "Fit image to window, all" into the Preview mode.
4-) If after any Keywords filters selection (into the keyword tab) the "Folder tab" is selected then --> show all images in the current folder (and make a refresh).
8a-) Keep the option "on" even after a re-start to have the Print size in cm

11-) add fields : {File Index} , and {calculated ratio} (1.33=4/3, 3/2, 16/9, etc...) into information "i" key
12-) Add a new tab (for a new cache function "Exclude all excepted...") into Option\Cache DB\ :

Code: Select all

Enable thumbnails cache but Exclude all directories excepted for the following folders and sub-folders:
...
...
13-) Keep in memory the last View\style\theme used on next restart ( and add an option to reset the theme to factory (default)).

MP Windows under Wine:
Sort By : "Name + ascending" for the folders tree too, the sorting is not good.
