Also startup-problem with XnView 1.70

Post by Lasse »

Hello!

I also have that startup-Problem with 1.70.

Using Tiger 10.4.2.

When I start the programm, X11 starts, but I can't open a photo, the open-button is disabled.
I tried to install as Administrator and usual User.
And when I click serveral times, I even can't reach the xnview-window, because there is no one. Only the X11-Window.

Strange ...

Regards,
Lasse

Ok, i'll check. Try to start xnview from XnView.app folder in a shell console

This is what MacOs X.3.9 Console.log tells me:

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete
Screen 0 added: 1280x854 @ (0,0)
/Applications/Imaging/XnView.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 14: /Users/XXX/.profile: No such file or directory

Maybe Lasse checks his one to spot eventual similarities under MacOs X.4.
(check Systemprofil/Protokolldateien, -according to your Sys language, obviously, but you're german, no?)

When I tried it first time, NO error!
But also nothing that happens ... X11 starts, and that's it, XnView did NOT start, but also NO error-message.
Then I broke up with CTRL+C and repeat:
Then I got error-message suddenly, when I tried again:

Mac-Lasse:/Applications/XnView.app/Contents/MacOS lasse$ ./XnView
^C
Mac-Lasse:/Applications/XnView.app/Contents/MacOS lasse$ ./XnView
26:34: execution error: X11 got an error: Connection is invalid. (-609)
/Applications/XnView.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 14: /Users/lasse/.profile: No such file or directory

What puzzles me -actually- is why you DID get the application running once. Under MacOs X.3.9 it never did.

Retry:
1) Launch X11
Console.log tells me:

Code: Select all

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete
2) Launch XnView by doubleclick. I don't try any terminal command, it's proved to be useless
Console log tells me:

Code: Select all

/Applications/Imaging/XnView.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 14: /Users/****/.profile: No such file or directory
System.log tells me

Code: Select all

Sep 19 06:20:32 localhost mach_init[2]: Server 0 in bootstrap d03 uid 0: "/usr/libexec/fix_prebinding": exited with non-zero status 1 [pid 445]
Something else:
after that, my sys is instable: loss of Dock and huge delay in Finder response (other applications are not affected, though, which makes me wonder): the problem is always connected to Privileges. If I don't fix that before shut down, the machine doesn't shut down.
I'm not sure if this is connected to X11 or to XnView or to the combination of them together. This Mac has been amazingly stable till now.
I'll try to reproduce the failure.

I must add:
the sys slow down happens after a while, 1 hour or 2. So it might well be something not XnView-related.
Checking the past logs seem to point to some combi-failure between Gimp missing some stuff, X11, and some other Unix apps. So let's drop the topic system slow down, it's my own business.
I guess understanding a bit of Darwin would help a lot.

I never get an error message after trying to launch XnView: the failure due to line 14 is only in the logs.
XnView does never produce a Crash.log; well, how could it, it really never started by me.
Can Shattenreiter look if he has a Crash.log for XnView?
I guess he might have one.

The second time I try to launch XnView happens this:

Code: Select all

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
/Applications/Imaging/XnView.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 14: /Users/****/.profile: No such file or directory
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete

Screen 0 added: 1280x854 @ (0,0)
As you see, all of a sudden there's a problem with temp owners.
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root. According to Fink's troubleshooting page (however, I have Apple's X11), this message is harmless. Can be disregarded. Couldn't stay on root anyway.

As to this log-line I didn't do anything else that might have influenced the log. Now I'm just keeping the log open with an editor. Whatever changes are immediately displayed:
Now I quit X11:

Code: Select all

Screen 0 added: 1280x854 @ (0,0)
z_alloc: 0 bytes in use out of 120848360 bytes overall; max 22958112.
Quitting XDarwin...
Some bad allocation I would say.

Now I restart for the third time X11:

Code: Select all

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete
Screen 0 added: 1280x854 @ (0,0)
Quitting XDarwin...
xterm: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) or KillClient on X server ":0.0"
Now by quitting there's fatal error.
From now on every attemp to open X11, with or without XnView returns the same results above.
So it's definitely also X11 making troubles
By me it's Original Apple X11 ver. 1.0.

Sorry for the long message, I just hope it helps coming to the point.
