Thank you, Pierre, there are many new features/changes/fixes for me in this new version.

Minor suggestion for SE:

252=Do you want to upload your files on the public server ImageShack?

--->>>

252=Do you want to upload your file(s) on the public server ImageShack?

Thanks Pierre, for the 1.93.6. :-)

A minor issue:
Currently it says: #define TXT_Adjust_Keep_Prev_Values "Retain values between sessions"
In some dialogs like "Image > Adjust > Levels..." the same functionality is called differently: "Keep values for next time"
Would be good if this could be unified.

"Keep values for next time" is ambiguous. What is meant by "next time"?

"Retain values between sessions" could be un-ambiguous if reworded to... "Retain values between XnView sessions"

But neither is quite satisfactory by itself. There are two conditions that may pertain:
  • 1. Whether the values are maintained within this XnView session

    2. Whether the values are maintained for the next XnView session
#1 is what I would call a "dynamic" option, one that might be changed frequently by the user within the current XnView session. This is best displayed in and controlled by the individual settings dialog(s).

#2 might be termed a "static" or "basic" option. This might best be displayed and controlled by the Options dialog (General page, perhaps?) and applied to all dynamic settings simultaneously.

A method is needed for the user to indicate what settings values in the dialog(s) are the default ones. Currently XnView assumes that "0" adjustments are the defaults...

A separate forum thread where we discuss XnView "terminology" might be useful, too.

Perhaps a better solution will be to have a 'set as default values' button instead of this checkbox

Hi Pierre

(Sorry, very busy, about to be a grandfather!)
Perhaps a better solution will be to have a 'set as default values' button instead of this checkbox
Yes, I think that would work fine. Some way to "reset to factory defaults " also would be useful.

Buttons becoming too verbose

Post by marsh »

The new function has arrived in dialogs like:
Adjust Hue/Lightness/Saturation

v.1.93.6 Text:
Default values
Previous values

v.1.93.6 B-2 Text:
Factory values
Set as default values
Default values

I don't think simple English commands require more explanation on button:
Zero
Set as default
Default

Hm... I don't understand "reset to factory defaults", sounds very industrial. I understand the need of a "reset" but don't like the phrase "factory defaults". "Reset to original defaults" would be ok, wouldn't it?

+1. "Factory defaults" sounds cumbersome and like a complete reset. Why not just: "Reset to default"? Or perhaps even better: a (small) graphical button with a tooltip.

but 'reset to default' and 'set as default' are almost similar as term, no?

Why not :
Default Values
save Custom
Custom Values
?

So you want to distinguish between a complete-original-factory-setting-default and a user-customized-"own"-default?

1. Reset to XnView default
2. Set (custom) default

But I'd like to ask you native english speaking users out there, what you consider appropriate phrases. Apart from "Factory default" ;)

Actually "Factory default" is very descriptive, but there's something with it that doesn't sound suitable for a computer program.

I like this, perhaps with one change:

Save as Custom ?
