"Convert to colours" vs. "Export (gif)"

Post by Troken »

When using "Convert to colours" there is an excellent dialog, using pull-down menus for colours and dithering.

Why the odd dialog in the export dialog for GIFs? There is not even a possibility to use Floyd-Steinberg dithering for colour images.

It would be swell if the usage method from "Convert to colours..." could be used in the Export as well.

In 'save as' dialog, you can choose dithering...

Yes, but the point is that "Export" is superior as a tool with an excellent GUI, preview etc. I (and others?) rather use "Export" than "Save as" so if it is possible, the same dithering alternatives should apply in "Export" too.

The current dithering method (with colours) in "Export" is "Bayer", right? It seldom delivers a satisfactory result, in fact usually it cant be used at all. Not only is the dithering method not good, the colours get distorted (usually pink-violet with few colours, for some mystic reason). Here "Floyd-Steinberg" would do miracles.

Example (16 colours - dithering):

You've added "Floyd-Steinberg" in the new 1.92 Betas :) Works great!

Done (a bit unusual, but why not...).
