Save As function does not refresh or reload the saved image

After saving a .png image as a highly compressed .jpg file, I noticed that the label on the tab changed to reflect the new format. However, when viewing the image, it appeared unchanged. It was only when I specifically selected the compressed .jpg file in the browser that I was able to see the true representation of the image. Why did this happen?

Save as... saves the image that was opened with any edits as a new image, immediately displaying the new image in the same tab, if that is what you suggest, would result in any unsaved changes to the original image being lost, which might be unwanted. It would also prevent further changes being made to the open image if desired and a further version being saved.
