Bonjour,
I got the same problem when trying to open a .png file in a directory that is named with spaces and viet/japanese characters :

"C:\JAPON\MANGA EN VO\ONE PIECE\One Piece - Đảo hải tặc tiếng Nhật Vol.1 chap 1 - Sakura Manga マンガの日本語_fichiers"

it prints the following warning message :
Erreur durant l'ouverture du fichier ""C:\JAPON\MANGA EN VO\ONE PIECE\One Piece - Đảo hải tặc tiếng Nhật Vol.1 chap 1 - Sakura Manga マンガの日本語_fichiers"

I will test XnView MP. But I understand the OP who leans for the Classic version, because when you browse the XnView description and reads "it supports 500 filetypes", i just think to myself "i dont need that much, i just need to display some photos".

Merci
cday

XnView Classic doesn't support Unicode, please try XnView MP as above...
