XnView 2.42 HEIF plugin iPhone front camera .HEIC

XnView 2.42 with HEIF plugin works great for iPhone rear camera photos in .HEIC format, but when attempting to open front camera ("selfie camera") photos, the following error message appears:

"Format of the file <photoname.HEIC> could not be determined.
For displaying of less common formats, the following option is available:
Options>General>[x]Display all image file types"

This box is already checked.

Thanks for the quick reply!
In preparing a sample, I may have discovered the true nature of the problem. I started by photographing just an envelope with the word "FRONT" written on it with the front camera, and it opened! As this was repeatable, I was starting to think XnView only did not like opening selfie pictures of MY face but that made me think it was "faces" in general that cause the problem. My testing previously only involved photos of random things taken as I sat at my computer, and none of people, until I turned the camera on myself - as crazy as it seems, this stands up to testing with photos taken by both front AND rear cameras, and even photos OF PHOTOS of people.

Each set of four photos was taken consecutively with camera in same position, but angled downward after each in order to capture less and less of the face area. The first two of each set do not open with XnView but the other two of each set do open; perhaps the iPhone saves/processes photos differently when a face is detected?

The problematic files have XMP metadata with face recognition information stored. The other files do not have XMP metadata at all.

Thank you, it is good to know that this behavior is due to a feature (iPhone) and not a bug of some sort.

Is/was this a known, unfixable issue, or, is it something that can be addressed in a future update of the plugin?
