Tga with alpha. Wrong visualization
I found a problem in Xnview.
It happens only with TGA 32 bit. In other words TGA with an alpha channel!
if I see a TGA with alpha and turn off the alpha from the view menu to only see the rgb channel I see a completely wrong picture full of black areas!
If I tell Xnview to only show me the alpha it shows a correct alpha!
If convert the TGA to other formats like Tiff I can see the rgb channels perfectly!
In this first picture you see the same image shown in Xnview and in Photoshop. Both application are showing only the rgb channel. The alpha is turned off in xnview too. As you can see in xnview I see a lots of black areas! This happen continuously with every tga 32bit.

In this second picture you can see the alpha both in photoshop e xnview. No problem here. Same alpha in both application.

In this third picture I show you the same image converted to a 32bit tiff. Perfect visualization in both photoshop and xnview!

Please! Fix the tga format! I always use that format and since the last version of Xnview I always have to use photoshop to see my tga instead!

Re: Tga with alpha. Wrong visualization
Yes of course!
But any tga with alpha have the same problems.
Here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/7i8i337gt ... _color.rar
Meanwhile I installed XnviewMP and it works perfectly. It doesn't have any problems with 32bit tga.
One question if possible!
In xnviewMp I have to turn off "Use alpha channel" every single time I view a photo. Is there a way to have the "use alpha channel" always off?
I cannot find the option in the preferences.

Re: Tga with alpha. Wrong visualization
the file is correctly viewed, in Paint.net it's the same. So it's strange that photoshop create like that the alpha channel.

Wait...
In Photoshop I see it correctly. I see it wrong in Xnview (lots of black areas).
In XnviewMP instead is perfect, like in photoshop.

No.
I see Tgas (32bit) wrong only in Xnview classic.
XnviewMP is correct.
I also tried resetting Xnview deleting the ini files. But I get same problems.
I use Xnview since years and only the last version give me problems with those tga. The previous versions always worked well!

Reproduced with XnView v2.40
- Download carrozzeria_color.rar.
- Extract carrozzeria_color.tga and open it in XnView Classic as well as XnView MP.
- Deactivate View → Use alpha channel in both Classic and MP.

The same file opened bot in Xnview and XnviewMP.
With alpha on (weird), with alpha off (the ugly black areas), with only the alpha visible (this is ok!).

Re: Tga with alpha. Wrong visualization
I discovered that I cannot keep "reduce" off! bwecause quality of scaled picture with "reduce" off is very bad!
So I have to keep "reduce" on and I turn it off only when needed (with 32bit tgas).
I hope you will solve this bug in the next xnview so I don't have to turn on and off that parameter everyday (or using XnviewMp that miss a few things).
Bye!

Re: Tga with alpha. Wrong visualization
I found the perfect solution to that bug!
I forget that is it possible to download the old versions of Xnview! How stupid I was!
So I removed Xnview 2.40 and I installed Xnview 2.39!
It works perfectly with 32bit TGAs.
Bye.
