Post by cliffcar2 »

Installed upgrade to ver. 2.20 and 'Image' on menu does not show - File, Edit, View, (Image), Tools, etc. Commands associated with 'Image' not working either...

Windows 7. The problem seems to be in the View>Image>Adjust>Brightness/Contrast/etc. window not opening completely, not allowing any adjustments to be made.
My older version, 2.13, running on both Windows 7 & 8.1 operates properly on their machines, as usual. Ver 2.20 on Windows 7 has the problem with the Brightness/Contrast/ etc window not opening fully. I have reinstalled twice, same problem...

How can I fix from this end? "Preview disabled" - I have never before come across how to enable/disable preview?

Hi there,

yesterday I encountered the same problem. I updated to the latest version of XnView 2.20, but the problem still exists.

Every time I opened the dialog windows, it became more and more smaller.

There is no chance to increase the dialog window.

I found a workaround to make the dialog window appear again:

- search for this file \Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\XnView\xnview.ini

- open it in edit-mode

- search for this section: [AdjustDlg]
- search for this setting: geometryH=123 and change it to: geometryH=800

(sometimes it may be also necessary to increase these settings: geometryW / geometryX / geometryY )

- search for this section: [Process]
- search for this setting: ShowPreview=0 and change it to: ShowPreview=1

- save your ini file

- restart your XnView and the dialog window will work fine now! :-)

Have a nice weekend!

I am also running Win 7 Ultimate, on a laptop, with the same results on the Image>Adjust>Brightness/Contrast/Gamma/Balance dialog controls.
Is the current suggestion of changing the ini file on each installation a long term recommendation, or will there be a new issue of the software with a correction?
I have installed 'MP' to get around this problem. I do not remember reading whether using XnView Classic 2.3 with 'MP' also installed is recommended.
The controls on 'MP' are far more limited than those of XnView Classic, and I will try to make the necessary changes. Thanks.

Hi, is there no easier fix to this?
I don't know how but my version 2.32 was running fine on Windows 7 Ultimate home user, 64 Bit. I didn't use it for a while, not sure
if I have automatic updates, now I cannot see/view whole of adjust window on Brightness/Contrast etc.
(All the other adjust buttons are fine.)

Is there a better version to install that is compatible with my OS so I don't have to fiddle with all of this!
Or a patch?

Ta...
