1.94.2: Option "Rotate images based on EXIF orientation

Post by Karl02 »

Tools -> Options -> General -> Operations -> Rotate images based on EXIF orientation

Activating this option has no immediate effect on thumbnails in the browser. A View -> Refresh has no effect, only changing the directory.

Yes, the thumbnails must be recreated using "View > Rebuild thumbnails" for updating the thumbnails in one directory.

If you want to update all your thumbnails, you can delete the thumbnail cache in "Tools > Options | Browser > Thumbnails | Cache | Remove all".

Would it be possible to call the "Rebuild thumbnails" function automatically if this option is changed?

Hmm, I think this would not be too hard.

Then you have updated thumbnails in the current directory, but in all other directories you will still have the "old" thumbnails. Perhaps a message box telling what to do would be better.

E.g.:
To update the thumbnails in a specific browser directory please use 'View > Rebuild' thumbnails to update thumbnails in the current directory. Alternatively you can force updating all thumbnails by clearing the thumbnail cache."

(A bit lengthy message text, though.)

The problem only occurs immediately after changing the option. After changing the directory, the thumbnails are rotated correctly. Actually there is no need to rebuild the thumbnails in the database, since only the view is changed. Therefore, the function "View -> Refresh" should be sufficient here, but it isn't.

In version 1.98.2 (2011-07-19) this bug is still present. :(

Pressing Ctrl+R on the keyboard refreshes the view correctly, while "View > Refresh" from the menu doesn't.

In XnView v2.32 (2015-03-16) this bug is still present. :bug: :(

The command "View > Refresh" from the menu doesn't refresh the view correctly, while Ctrl+R on the keyboard (Shortcut for "View > Refresh") surprisingly does.

Todo:
1) Fix "View > Refresh" so that it does the same as Ctrl+R.
2) Call Refresh after changing the rotate option.
3) Move rotate option to View > View section in the options dialog. And perhaps it could also be added to the "View" menu to make it easier accessible.
