Opening files with spaces in names/create new image

1. I get an error when attempting to open a file with a space in the name (1 a.jpg) by double-clicking on the file. The same file can be opened when I first open XnView and then the image.

2. Is there no option to create a new, blank images? I wanted to paste three images together into one by creating a new blank image the size of the three images but was not able to.

The reason for your problem 1.) is a file association which was set using Windows. When using the Windows dialog to associate a file extension to a program this is normally o.k. But XnView is a little bit picky and cannot open files with spaces in the path or file name. This problem origins in the way XnView handles command line options, XnView needs the file names in quotes, spaces are interpreted as separators for multiple files. This means that XnView will not open your file "C:\Temp\1 a .jpg", but try to open a file "C:\Temp\1" and a file "a.jpg", which will result in the error message you experience.

To fix this problem, remove the file associations set in XnView and then associate them again. To do this, you open the options "Tools->Options->Associations" in XnView. Then you press "Restore All". Then press "Most common" and/or you manually select the formats you want to associate by checking them in the list.

You can paste the image, save it to a temp file, paste another, save another too, then use the "Create panorama" tool of XnView.

It isn't really a friendly workaround, but there is no other way in current version of XnView.

BTW, Linux version still does not have Panorama option. I think Pierre is working on it, so, don't worry.

I think the Panorama tool needs to be really improved... I want a tool to "join" images together, but has MORE power than current one. I think it should show the both images side-by-side (or top-down), with possibility to zoom them. And should also have a "draggable spot", which is the "point where images join". The idea is to put the second image on top of first one, with the "spot" of both images coinciding. These two images, one on top of the other, will compose the final image.

This is the way "ArcSoft PhotoStudio" (I don't remember exactly, the program was to big and slow for my needs) worked. It had some options to blend the pictures and so on. I think XnView could be have a complete "image joining" tool, and still easy to use and lightweight.

I ask this feature because one time I had to join about 10 or more pictures. They weren't exactly side-by-side (I was making was a big map of roads of my district, using screenshots of a road software).

Another solution for problem 2.) (inspired by CrazyTerabyte):

In the browser, you select the three images. Then create a panorama image. In the panorama image you select all the content of the panorma image (Ctrl+A) and then cut it (Ctrl+X).
