Re: Video playback orientation for portrait videos
it's a known issue of QtAV library (based on ffmpeg)

Re: Video playback orientation for portrait videos
Hi,
3 years and there is no solution?! Tried several other software (VNC, Faststone Image Viewer, TC, ...): everytime videos are showed correctly. Only Xnview is showing all(!) videos wrong (took videos with several devices). So, I was thinking in buying Xnview - but ... this way it is useless. Why it does work without all other software?

Currently the only way is to use windows Direct2D decoder

XnView Mp can use Direct2D driver by using
Code: Select all
useInternalVideoPlayer=false

Re: Video playback orientation for portrait videos
It doesn't work here with XnView MP as already reported. Most phone (Google Pixel phones) videos simply don't play, all I get is a blank screen. Those that do play are not rotated. Other videos where I've used software to rotate these videos do play.

Re: Video playback orientation for portrait videos
Hey Pierre,
Long time user/fan of XnView and have recently returned to a project organizing family photos. But I was pretty shocked to see that the video rotation bug is still present several years after being reported.
I've tried the suggestion of setting useInternalVideoPlayer=False but that just makes it so no video plays - I'm on Ubuntu, perhaps that works on Windows.
Did you ever get a response from the QTAV team? Going to be pretty frustrating to have to find another tool to use just for the video organization.
Any update would be appreciated. (I created an account just to post about this as it's that important).

Re: Video playback orientation for portrait videos
Hi,
I might add to this topic as well (XnViewMP only):
a) Portrait videos are wrongly oriented in either preview or full-screen playback from any source (2 Samsung mobile phones, 2 Sony still cameras).
b) However, the effect exhibits differently if using the internal player (ffmpeg) vs. external codec:
b1) internal player (ffmpeg): Portrait video is flipped upside down.
b2) external codec (xnview.ini edited): video is rotated 90° to landscape format (though recorded in portrait).
c) thumbnail (1/4) is shown in landscape too.
d) "ExifToool Composite" (as shown in XnViewMP) says "Rotation 90".
Perhaps that helps in identifying the cause?
Thanks, and regards, fussfolk.
