RAW to JPG Conversion Question

Post by parrycm »

Hi....

Newbie so please forgive me if I'm asking an obvious question. I have a bunch of RAW (.RW2 from Panasonic Lumix) that I want to convert to JPG.

When I select one pic, and save as JPG with options set to 100% and "use estimated original quality if possible" checked and Subsampling Factor set to best - the resulting JPG is indistinguishable from the original RAW - at least when viewed in XNView. Which is what I want.

But when I use the option to Batch Process, or Convert to JPG, the results are noticeably different, it's more like the conversion process is using the default options (80% etc).

I can get the results I want by saving each pic but it's going to take a long time compared to the batch. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance
Chris

Yes - I have exactly the same parameters set.

1) in browser view I select the .RW2 pics I want to convert
2) Right click and choose batch processing - dialog box appears
3) I click on options - verify that, for JPEG Write, the quality is set to 100%, use estimated best quality is checked, sub-smapling is set to best - click on OK
4) I verify that overwrite is set to rename and check box that says "keep original date/time attributes"
5) I click on GO

could you send me your sample files?

when you open the CRW2, you don't open the RAW but the embedded jpeg (1920x1440). When you convert it, by default options>Raw>High resolution is active, so the full RAW will be converted (4912x3688)
