pxd files

Hello,

I thought I found THE software the was going to help me. XnView looked very promising but does not support the file I am having an issue with.

My son accidentally saved artwork he was doing on Sketchbook Pro to a PXD file instead of saving to a PSD file.

Does anyone know any software that will help me convert the PXD file back to a PSD file?

I would appreciate any help with this. I have had no luck finding anything that will even open a PXD file. Just cryptic language software stuff.

Googling a bit it looks as if the file may have been created using a Flash-based browser utility that may be freely accessible:

If you are able to access that and open the PXD file you should presumably be able to save it as a PSD or other image format.

Whether the Flash-based utility is the full application or only supports a sub-set of functions I don't know.

Converting them with the Pixlr editor to PNG or TIFF doesn't preserve the layers (as in Fireworks PNGs or Photoshop TIFFs).

The pixlr format is a compressed binary format, why we choose this and not a xml/jpg ish format is due to many reasons.
It all comes down to quality, speed and file size.
The pxd file is compressed with zlib to reduce the file size.
The uncompressed data are then ordered into two main sections. The Header and the Layer section.
The header includes, pxd version, color-mode, width, height and number of layers.

It's been 6 years since the original thread, but I have a question as well:
Now that Pixlr (I use pixlr E) isn't Flash-based, I do not know how to convert a .pxd file to .psd anymore.
Is there any ideas or sites I can go to?
