I think that this could be a bug.

xnview already have it! open the options dialog and the last section "associations" is what you are looking for.
whenever you change selections, xnview set associations into windows explorer...but be aware! if you have another application that use them it is most likely that such application check at startup the associations and don't let other applications get them!
if you are using acdsee, you must disable that "associations check" (or better unselect any association) into acdsee, otherwise associations will always be overwritten by acdsee.
than maybe is another application doing the associations check...because to me xnview associations works fine.
more than this, if you are confident with windows registry, you may change associations into xnview and check the registry just after exiting xnview.
i suppose is another application causing you problems.

In the options of ACDSee, IrfanView, and in the other programs to see images, I can associate files to open them in Windows Explorer when you double left click in that files.
I want to have this feature in XnView!
Did you understand now what I mean?
Yes, now your description is clear. You're using Windows XP, have you read and tried
File associations on Windows XP?

Yes. I already read that topic log time ago...
But this topic doesn't resolve the problem! This should be resolved by the developers of XnView.
Please, try to fix this. I love this program and thanks to make it free, but this problem is very annoying...
Regards

if the problem is that windows explorer still opens "windows picture and fax viewer", it is a windows bug and the registry fix ca be found into the topic that helmut already linked, if this is the problem xnview cannot be blamed for not integrating fixes for windows bugs
maybe i was not "clear enuogh": the problem with the windows picture and fax viewer is a WINDOWS BUG!

The Options/Associations settings doesn't work with the XnView and XnView Deluxe. And I already format my computer a lot of times and always have this problem...
I don't have problem with IrfanView or ACDSee, so it can only be because of XnView...

Will this solve the problem with associations on Windows XP in general? If so, this would be really good, since a number of people have stumbled over this in the past.
