I've just fixed the broken link in the very first post. Please note that the ZIP archive is zipped with subfolder "AddOn", already, so it must be unpacked to the program folder of XnView.

Before you go too far with the design, for me, having the separate popup window is not the best. I realize there may be limitations imposed by XnView's plugin architecture, but for me, paint should be applied directly into the currently viewed image (ie directly into the tab view, not in a popup)...

All such comments aside, though, this will be an extremely useful addition to XnView!
I agree. Thanks Pierre.

About a hotkey, I think P is good, perhaps P and Tab (it was in prev. versions I think). Toolbar button would be useful too.

However, important question is if the John's idea is applicable, then we can make more suggestions...

If not, perhaps the same hotkey (P/Tab) could open and close (the same as OK button) Paint.

BTW Small suggestion, there is already one Paint, perhaps this one could be XnPaint. ;)

"Paint" is not quite German. Is there a way to translate the menu item?

For all I know the Tab key is used for swapping the orientation of the selection, already.

Currently, the Paint plugin is an additional feature, not a stand-alone program. So I think the menu item simply should say that drawing / painting on the image is possible. This could be "Paint" or "Draw", or something adequate. Also this menu item should be translated in other languages.

A bug and several suggestions for the Paint tool:

- XnView Main Window always at top
When opening the paint tool and closing it, the XnView main window behaves strangely. When trying to bring other windows to front, the XnView main window will stay at top. :bug:

- Line and Move symbol
The symbols for "Line" and "Move" look very similar. The "Move" symbol looks as if the user could draw a line.

- Standard icons
For the paint tool the standard iconset / skin should be used. Currently, there's special icons which do not belong to any skin.

- Paint tool does not always open when pressing hotkey "P"
When pressing the hotkey "P", the paint tool does not open always. To reproduce close XnView, start it, open an image and press "P".

- Zooming with wheel mouse
Zoom with wheel mouse should be supported.

- Standard hotkeys
The standard hotkeys should be supported, e.g. + / - for zooming.

EDIT : Please, try from THERE

hi clo,
thanks for the quick response and new link, 'THERE'. it works fine.

out of curiosity, i tried the earlier link 'HERE' with firefox browser again and i get the same error!

however, when i tried with internet explorer v7, the link 'HERE' also works fine.

very funny, but it is my problem, SORRY.

thanks for the quick response and the concern showed by providing the new link.
I am a lazy person, always searching for ways to avoid work and still manage the show !

:) Hi John !

• I agree, I would much prefer a built-in feature, directly usable in View

- Well, a start is a start… However, sorry to play the killjoy,
but regardless the annoyances I had¦have with the French version, I've to snive a bit…

1. We miss the most basic and simple and useful painting tool: A pencil¦brush !

2. In the LNG, I see a “Fill” string (there is no English section by there, it's a lacuna for the translators !)
but I can't find any “Fill” tool…

3. Why this funereal black background, impossible to change actually ?
- It's totally depressing…

4. How to display the grid ? It should be very useful and handy, but the non-modal window is not resizable,
and there is not any short cut to call the grid (here and in View, BTW)

5. No rubber… To remove anything, currently how to do ? For a line, one can use a line and the BG colour, but for other geometric figures?

6. At the first attempt, the <P> shortcut doesn't work, it needs at least to open the Filter Menu
- even don't use the Paint entry - close it and then the key works !

7. IMHO, the tool might be set in the Tools Menu, it's logical, isn't it ?

• And other “bits and pieces” not quite convenient I'll detail elsewhere in this thread…

Bits and pieces…

• Hi !
…The symbols for "Line" and "Move" look very similar. The "Move" symbol looks as if the user could draw a line. …
• Right, I agree, but the bitmaps for these icons are in a safe set in the “Paint” library, and even impossible to watch…
…For the paint tool the standard iconset / skin should be used. Currently, there's special icons which do not belong to any skin. …
… but I saw them already as a part of the (old?) tool-bar for the Compare tool…
- Hence, it could be simple to use the ones of the customizable bitmaps…
…The standard hotkeys should be supported, e.g. + / - for zooming.
Absolutely !
… … "Paint" is not quite German. Is there a way to translate the menu item?
• It's no more French or Italian, or…
- If you mean a “legal” way to translate this, I fear that the answer be “NO” currently :|
- I've already groused about this, Pierre knows, and I would propose a generic naming like i.e. :
"Draw Retouchs" or "Retouch Tool" or so. A not legal title:

100 for free…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello!

• No problem, I know that the Lycos hosting doesn't work sometimes for foreign downloaders…
But they give 100 MiB for free, so "one can't spit on" :D

• I use that site mainly to store images to display here and in other fora…

• It's possible that some users had issues with the zip of the programme, I had and a friend too.
- Pierre sent me the good one via e-mail, thus I could place it on the best
hosting if needed for some days only, though, because the folder is close to be full.

It's a RC, so thanks for your feedbacks or bugs...

It's a first version, so i'll add more feature after :-)

Currently it's not possible, i must rewrite all view mode code

Resizable---

Post by Clo »

—> Pierre

:) Hello !
Currently it's not possible, i must rewrite all view mode code
• Well, but could you make the “Paint” window resizable and able to be moved a bit ?
- And allow the grid for the displayed image…

• Also, please consider the other points I noticed in my message to JohnFredC above, they are the most urgent, IMHO…
• In addition, I would love an extra-button in the tool-bar for the function, but we need the whole commands as available,
like this is proposed HERE and unanswered from you :?

Umm... WTF are you talking about legallity?? "Paint" is a generic word, just like "draw" or "retouch". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint

btw If you want hosting space, you can use google. Signup for a gmail acct, and you'll get a free page creator acct too. This gives you 100megs of space, and doesn't seem to have any problems with hotlinking or foreign sites/users. The only real drawback is that there's no ftp access, you have to upload from your browser.

I tried this plugin, and it doesn't do anything. I tried the link in the first post, then tried the "there" link, both were the same. There is no filter->paint menu entry, and "P" does not work. I'm using 1.90RC3.

Focus…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• Now I can, but I couldn't with the first (damaged) package.

- But even when a bit reduced, the normal View under doesn't get the focus, so I can't display the grid…
- The window of the tool stays on-top always.

• What about the other points ? :?

:) Hello!

• Sorry, you misunderstood, this is not the point.

- I meant how to translate physically, since there is no string in the LNG file !
- Nothing to do with the word¦s to use itself¦themselves…

- You might have noticed the quotes of legal

BTW : It works with 1.90.3, not RC3…
