Order of main menu items
The discussion in topic "Screenshot import is partly about the menu's and consistency and made me look at the menus in browser and image view mode.
In browser mode, the order of the main menu items is:
File Edit View Tools Window Info
In Image view mode, it is:
File Edit Image Filter View Tools Window
I think something is wrong in image view mode, since the menus "Image", "Filter", and "Tools" are split by the "View" menu.
I think in Image view mode the order should be either
a.) File Edit Image Filter Tools View Windows
or
b.) File Edit View Image Filter Tools Windows.
From my point of view this would be clearer and more logical. Personally I prefer b.) at the moment, don't exactly know why.

Maybe also "Info" could be renamed "Help", as in other programs...

Layout and name---

• This layout sounds more logical IMHO…a.) File Edit Image Filter Tools View Window
• Absolutely, I support too.…Maybe also "Info" could be renamed "Help", as in other programs…
{ Note : The order of the menus could be changed / customized easily whether we'ld had text language files… It's possible to get all menus in a single file.
- Then, no problem to change the layout, only a Cut >> Paste >> Save handle… }

Claude, that's too important to write it that small - so I felt free to remove the formatting.Clo wrote:The order of the menus could be changed / customized easily whether we'ld had text language files… It's possible to get all menus in a single file.

And it's absolutely ON topic!

Re: Layout and name---
I think a more flexible toolbar with more buttons is most important. Restructurable menus would be a pretty sophisticated thing and mainly for advanced users. I think we should focus on the basic things needed in XnView - there is still lots of them...Lesmo16 wrote:Claude, that's too important to write it that small - so I felt free to remove the formatting.Clo wrote:The order of the menus could be changed / customized easily whether we'ld had text language files… It's possible to get all menus in a single file.

Topic---
• Hi !
- I express an opinion about the topic you have launched.
Are you joking ?
- Not at all with text-files, just give a glance in those of Total Commander, for instance… No more complicated than that I told above, an edit-change a text file !
Even Aunt Agatha knows to do ! I bet that Lesmo 16 could confirm as a TC-user

My observation is that in most mainstream Windows apps the main menu sequence is usually
File Edit View ... Tools Windows Help
With app-specific menus substituted for the ellipsis (...).
Woah now, yes that's a big generalization, but I have found that my motor memory tends to look for (er, uh, mouse for) menus in that sequence.

Re: Topic---
Good so we basically agree. But a toolbar is for quick access and should be configurable, whereas the menus and menu items should remain something unchangeable, I think.Clo wrote:- I express an opinion about the topic you have launched.- It is, like I highlighted as an example…I think a more flexible toolbar with more buttons is most important. …

When discussing things I rarely write jokes. Perhaps it would be not too hard to implement, I don't know and even don't care too much. But I think it's for sophisticated and advanced usage, only. I always try thinking in terms "Most benefit for most users" and I just think that restructurable menus are for few people only and therefore not so important.Clo wrote:helmut wrote:Restructurable menus would be a pretty sophisticated thing and mainly for advanced users. Are you joking ?
