"Invert" selection option

an option to invert the rectangle selection would be great

Why, you can only make rectangle for selection?

I am looking for an INVERT option

so I can select the area OUTSIDE from the rectangle ;)

At the moment, XnView supports only rectangular selections. This is why you cannot invert selections in XnView (inverting a rectangle makes a rectangle with a whole in it).
