I'm trying to use the "Import & Sort" option and therer is no option for custom file names for subfolders or file-renaming.
Please help.
I was a big user of CAM2PC many years ago and a format I use for teaching students efficient ways to organize photos involves the following. This Import format is also usable in Apples Apeture Pro Photo applicaiton (but thats dead now).
Library root: d:\photolibrary
Import Sub folder path : yyyy\MM\yyyy-MM-DD_<Event/Project-Name>
Rename Original Filename: yyyy-MM-DD_<Event/Project-Name>.<origional.extension>
(Dates would be generated from the EXIF data of the photo)
You could setup root, and Sub-folder path in preferences.
You could setup the import naming template. Then during import, it would prompt for Event/Project-Name and if it detected a time difference greater then "X" it would prompt you for a updated Event/Project-Name, in which you could keep the same or enter a new one. This helped with importing photos say taken over a week for multiple events. "x" time was defined in the preferences by hours. Example, if you shot a morning wedding, then a Bar Mitzvah that evening and you set it to look for 3-hour differences, it would auto prompt you for the project name.
There was also a option to detect if there were RAW+JPGs and put them in separate sub-folders.
This structure lets you search through folders with a general naming without reliance on a special application and is great for archiving because its not overly complicated and is simple to navigate.
