ACDSee 3.10 and XnView 1.80

Post by trodas »

I must say that since recently I found small GIF bug in ACDSee 3.10, Im inclined to change my default viewer.

However in comparsion to the ACDSee 3.10 (I did not want to upgrade to more recent ACDSee versions, because they don't allow me to disable some of their features, like the countless tabs and crap on the "catalog of thumbnails" screen...

Anyway, I have few questions like:
1) why is not possible to configure the fullscreen view mode (F11 - quick and fullscreen, NO top/down parts of windovs and such...) to be default action on double-click and why the default view is relatively slow???

2) speed of scrolling on image (zoomer or simply big one) is very slow? Why? I love the smooth quick, almost synchronized with VBlank looking speed of ACDSee... :?

3) why there is not a "minimal" instalation option witch cut down the number of files to the ONE + ini + one dir that IS really need? (the small number of files is definitively a big PLUS for me!)

4) there are lot's of functions and configs, but I did not manage to find the key-config to be possible define the keys for 1:1 image size and for the "resize to fit" like ACDSee? (eg. inversed) Can it be made into the ini file? (that will be enought for me...)

5) in some cases, on brother machine with XP crap, the bottom start menu thing get hidden after say, a helf or second when the image is displayed. Why?!

6) what happen when one reinstall winblows? Will the program works and prefs, saved in ini file, work? (re-registering image extensions is logicaly necessary thing, but the rest...?)

7) any plans to add the border and nicer comment in the thumbnails view? (again, like ACDSee  )

After reading all that, I have to recommend ACDSee for you

1: I don't know what you exactly mean, but you can edit fullscreen in 'Options / View / Fullscreen' and default action for double-click in 'Options / General / Switching modes'

2: Get use to it...

3: XnView v1.80.2 Minimal version
http://download.xnview.com/XnView-win-small.exe
http://download.xnview.com/XnView-win-small.zip

4: No. Not at the moment.

5: Do you mean fullscreen? If so, it's normal when the start menu disappears.

6: You will lost the file associations, USB camera & scanner events and 'Browse with XnView' context menu.

7: Yeah some.

Hey but, trodas welcome to XnView Forum. Here's your welcome soap.
XnView Tweak UI - Tool to customize your XnView beyond the regular XnView options.
UI-less Settings - Documentation of all the hidden settings in XnView.
XFAM - Tool to create and customize XnView file associations.

ckv - thanks for welcome, but don't start with the ACDSee thing, please :D It is a "bit" overbloated crap, I don't want to use it :? Yet there is currently no alternative :(

1) - yes, it is possible to setup it, but it did not work the way it should. Like I write already - first it show the image, with top/bottom bars and also a bit slow. Then, on next double-click it goes finally and fast - fullscreen. The only one way we found (bro's computer) to fast, quick immediate fullscreen is - pressing F11. This is, of course, way from being usefull... :? I took another look, but... I dubt we overlooked this.

2) it is too terribly slow. Don't say "get use to it..." when I don't want to. Could not be the scrolling speed smooth? :?:

3) good point :!: I cut down the org. install to one file + prefs + cache thumbnails dir by myself as well  That is what I like on XnView!

4) I can live with this :P Yet defininf the key in ini file and allowing then user edit the ini file to change it - well - that should not be too hard, it is?

5) Yes, it disapears, but after half second - why the wait, that is the question of the day :? :?:

6) file associations will be fixed when I start XnView again, nope? USB/cam/scan setting I did not plan even to touch and context menu I did not use as well, i prefer to work with Total Commander

7) ...and changes like my picture now shows...??? :?:

JohnFredC - hey, thanks  I never even consider to try out the v7, after the v4 disaster :? I has few problems with the 3.10 trying to render previews, even if I forbidden that in prefs, for mpeg and avi files, mostly consumin 100% CPU time and stoped responsing and such, but hey, I managed to fix this by deleting the plugins for mpeg and avi loading, so, except the damn cursed animated Gif view bug (last frame trash :( ) Im perfectly happy with ACDSee 3.10 right now.
Looks like the number of crap could be significantly reduced in v7 :)
But can you configure it to look at least very slose like my screenshot? :?: :?: :?:

3. You can use even "zip" version, I think, there is no need to reinstall/recopy after windows reinstall.

6. You must just re-associate them in options. Settings are in xnview.ini file, but there is another .ini file in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\XnView" - bookmark.ini (favourites).

7. I think it's (almost) possible, use menu > View > ... to disable what you don't like and use Layout #3.

Yea me also switched from ACDSee 3 to xnview. It feels much smarter and a little more handy.

As I work a lot with textures and alphas the "M"-key for "show alpha-mask" is a Moooooonster Plus to me!! And btw : the slight shadow under the browser images are just sexy

But still there are a few things that I miss:

* Drag and Drop from image view (think i posted this before as guest, but i can't find no more, so don't know if there were answers before *shrug*) : In Image view you got that hand-cursor for moving the image. But at zoom 100% its useless. In this state you should be able to drag and drop the image to another application, to copy or to edit eg in photoshop like its possible in the browser (or in ACDSee of course ;P)

* tiling : I think I saw such a function in Ifran View (or however..). It whould be really really great to see in the image view if a texture is seamlessly tilable (maybe via hotkey as well)

* why Image View-Windowsize = Browser View Windowsize?!?! : If I have a small image (eg 64x64) the image view window can be small as well.. no problem. But when I doubleclick why the hell the browser has the same size?!?! Whats the use of this?! Oo?!!?

* next image with "space" : can it be that from version 1.80 the space-bar is "start slideshow" in image view?!? Is there an option to turn on next image via space-bar again?

I do care. Since when it is not possible to use space for next image?
(ACDSee you get a huge PLUS from be, because there is any key = space too  )
