It might be useful if the user can quickly switch from their custom label back to the default label. With a checkbox "[x] Show following info in Thumbnail label" this could be solved easily.
Note:
Not sure whether this is really needed by users.

Veeeery good idea!helmut wrote:It might be useful if the user can quickly switch from their custom label back to the default label. With a checkbox "[x] Show following info in Thumbnail label" this could be solved easily.
But I want to top it ...
I don't like the suggested CheckBox, because I don't know where to place it for quick access.
Instead I like to suggest another entry in the "View" -> "View as" menu.
IMO it should be the 2nd entry, named "Thumbnails & User Labels".
So the user can store his personal set of thumbnail labels and can activate it with menu, with F9 or with mouse.
Should be as easy to integrate in xnView - perhaps easier.
So what do you think?

Hum, don't know what is better. But check box is the simpliest way...Lesmo16 wrote:Veeeery good idea!helmut wrote:It might be useful if the user can quickly switch from their custom label back to the default label. The entry "Thumbnails & User Labels" in "View as" menu is absolutely consitent. No new control is needed.
The activation is completely embedded in the actual existing structure.
Selection is made (with mouse) from menu, or by toggling through the list with F9.
Everybody knows intuitive where to find and activate it.

As written above, I'm not sure how often toggling Custom labels on/off is really needed. If you add it as a new View (in menu 'View as') all users will stumble over it regardless of whether they will actually need it or not. And toggling between modes pressing F9 several times will become even harder. Last not least naming this special thumbnail view would be challenging (Thumbnails, Thumbnails & Details, Thumbnails & Custom Labels?)Lesmo16 wrote:The entry "Thumbnails & User Labels" in "View as" menu is absolutely consitent. I'd prefer to keep this setting separate in the options.

Hm, with F9 that's true for sure.helmut wrote:If you add it as a new View (in menu 'View as') all users will stumble over it regardless of whether they will actually need it or not. And toggling between modes pressing F9 several times will become even harder.
But there are the 2 other ways: Menu entry in main menu and ListBox in small icons group.
