Post your ideas here....

Naturally I would like OPs status, along with Pierre, Helmut, Dreamer and others.

I like the idea, i have asked Pierre few days ago about that. The thing is... make own irc server (easy to do, i can do that on few minutes), or use a existing irc network.

Advantages of using an existing server: Many people would already have registered nicks (especially on a large network) and might therefore be more willing to join, and we'd get more "walk in" visitors.

Advatages of making our own server: No nicks would already be taken, we wouldn't have to worry about server splits, fewer spammers.

On a test basis, using a "IRC client" connect to EFnet and join #xnview

IRC Clients (in no order)
mIRC (shareware) - http://www.mirc.co.uk
Trillian Basic (freeware) - http://www.trillian.cc
Miranda (freeware) - http://www.miranda-im.org
GAIM (freeware) - http://gaim.sourceforge.net
HydraIRC (freeware) - http://www.hydrairc.com
Visual IRC (freeware) - http://www.visualirc.net/features.php
Tiny IRC (shareware\freeware) - http://www.tinyirc.net
ChatZilla (freeware but needs Mozilla or Firefox) - http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla
XChat (shareware) - http://www.xchat.org/windows

Currently I use both ChatZilla and Trillian Basic.

I generally use trillian and mirc for IRC. Trillian is more convenient, but mirc has more/better features.
A couple other popular IRC progs are www.xchat.org and www.icechat.net
