We (nikonians) can't keep ISO exif field (and some other, also important ones) as it is (as I understand) kept in Makernotes Section...
What I mean is - it can be read while opening RAW (NEF), but after converting to jpg, makernotes are surprisingly lost...
I don't know if this problem refers to others as well (Canon, Pentax and so on..) but it is the only thing at the moment that makes Xnview useless for me ...
I don't really want to get back to cracked acdsee, still I'm not happy with nikon viewfx, irfan or other freeware stuff. I just want to use Xnview...
Can you help?

Re: Nikon Makernotes
It's really difficult to keep makernotes, do you know a software that keep them?

Re: Nikon Makernotes
Certainly.
ACDSee keeps both: regular and makernotes exif section in converted JPGs.
Also NIKON ViewNX keeps all exif fields (what is not surprising as it is NIKON and its makernotes - LINK for English Version - French is also available).
But I'd still like to use your Xnview. I compared abovementioned programmes (and some more) and found some functionality that suits me the best only in Xnview: batch conversion together with batch editing (like sharpening). Also Xnview proved to fix the White Balance in RAW (NEF) files the best comparing to others - which is extremely important.
Unfortunatelly NIKON decided to keep as important data as ISO Sensivity (if you take photos you probably know how important it is) or Lens ID in makernotes and therefore it is difficult to manipulate. But as ACDSEE or NIKON VievNX showed - it is possible. I found some Nikon Makernote Format Specification online: http://www.ozhiker.com/electronics/pjmt ... on_mn.html and: http://gvsoft.homedns.org/exif/makernote-nikon.html if that is any help for you...
Don't get me wrong - I don't demand this feature. The Xnview project is freeware so I can only ask It would be nice if you could fix it, though.
Wait a moment - I have an idea - maybe when converting RAW > JPG you could copy ISO field - from makernotes (I see we can read it) - and paste into regular exif fields (which are filled when taking photo with other camera than nikon)??

Re: Nikon Makernotes
Can XnV read makernotes? I don't see many info in it.
Maybe this library is useful?

No, I just found that site describing the details, and wondering if we can see that in xnview.

Re: Nikon Makernotes
Hi,
I know, this is an old thread, but the problem is still present.
I currently revisit all my images including the EXIF-data to prepare the switch to another editing-software and image-management-software. XnV MP does not show all available data of images, taken with my old NIKON E5000 and D70. Images taken with my D850 are ok.
I recognized the problem when I built the settings of the VnV browser-info-tooltip. I included the tag {EXIF:ISO value}, but nothing was displayed. I checked the EXIF-data-tab, no ISO-value in the EXIF-group for those images.
I checked the EXIFTOOL-tab that displays more data than the EXIF-tab. This tab displays the MakerNotes-group at the end of the list. This group gives me a tag "ISO" for the images taken with the E5000 and the tags "ISO" and "ISO Settings" for the images taken with the D70.
I cannot access the tags from the MakerNotes-group in XnV to add it to the info-tooltip and to use them for EXIF-maintenance.
I checked the EXIF-data of the images by running EXIFTOOL in command-mode, displaying all available tags. The MakerNotes-tags "ISO" and "ISO Setings" were part of the listed values, displayed below the EXIF-values (seen by XnV) and not separated by any value. They appear just like a normal part of the images data.
I tried to attach two old NIKON-NEF-files for you, but the editor does not support NEF-files. If you are interested in the old files, please send me an email-address.
Thank you for your time.
