Suggestion> Switch Video Players

Post by ckit »

I would like to see an option that allows you switch to any of the following players instead of using the built-in video player in XnView.
So that when you open a video file in Browser mode it opens:

WMP 6.4 (call mplayer2.exe) only for MPG and AVI (newer WMV don't play)
WMP 9.0 (call wmplayer.exe) for MPG,AVI,ASF and WMV
WMP 10.0 (call wmplayer.exe) only for winxp

There's no point in having an option for 7.x as no one uses it. Come to think of it the option for WMP 9.0 should be able to double for WMP 10.0 as well.

Naturally, MOV files will still be handled by XnView's player.
I wouldn't dream of XnView being linked to Quicktime player.

PS. I don't work for MS :)

After re-reading your post carefully I got what you mean. The video player of XnView is good but has some flaws (e.g. Zooming, mouse handling). So I think that this is a good idea and also vote for an option "Use external Video player".

We should not discuss too much about implementation details, just an idea for easily achieving this:
When setting this option, the Shell context of the video file should be used. So the associated program (Video player) would be started.
