Options window : Additional APPLY button

Post by murthy363 »

Presently options window has two buttons OK (apply changes and close window) and CANCEL (close without applying changes).

Request for additional APPLY button ( to apply changes and keep the window open). This will help in seeing the affect of the changes before final acceptance and closing of the window.
I am a lazy person, always searching for ways to avoid work and still manage the show !

My System : Win XP SP2 + XnView standard English version

Yes, for some settings like skins an "Apply" button might be helpful.

Note: I remember the days when there wasn't even a "Cancel" button...

:) Hello !

• Indeed, I support ! This has been requested already n… times (Mr. Librarian, please? 8) )

• It could be useful also on a lot of options pages, i.e. for the language choice…

- But IMHO, it might be present on ALL pages, this is the way used by Total Commander,
it's very convenient and time saving !

As written above, I also think that an "Apply" button would be a good thing. On the options dialog it won't help the user too much because most options do not change the user interface. For thumbnails an immediate preview on the options dialog would be much more efficient than an "Apply" button.

So I think that the "Apply" button in the options has little importance. Whereas in other areas, e.g. on the Grid dialog for example, such an "Apply" button has quite some importance, see discussion in topic A: Grid settings dialogue….

Please note that I don't want to talk down this suggestion, I just want to make sure that it gets as much focus/importance as it deserves).

• Hi !

• I guess that Apply in the Interface options is needed, for languages, like I said, but also for the tool-bars, and later -I hope-
to set Interface fonts when the text-languages are there…
