XnViewMP 0.93 (Win10) - WebP with 32bit colour depth problem

Post by masterjp »

Does somebody know, why Windows 10 64bit and Android 7.x or (higher) smartphones/tablets could not show WebP image files with 32bit colour depth?
Is it a new feature of WebP 1.0 ? Do the operating systems use old webp libraries?

I saved the images with XnViewMP to WebP format. Other Windows picture viewers do not have any problem.

I use the icaros thumbnail generator for video files and I think it generates thumbnails for pictures, too.

If I save a picture to webp format with 24bit, everything is correct! - Strange.
Only 32 bit colour depth is the problem.

Re: XnViewMP 0.93 (Win10) - Batch conversion - problem with 32bit color depth

Post by masterjp »

Something in the batch conversion mode is the problem of incompatible or damaged webp files!

I saved my Photoshop file with 32bit colour depth with XnView 2.47 and XnView MP to webp format with 90% quality and the Windows Explorer has no problem with it! Then I converted the same Photoshop file with XnViewMP and XnConvert in batch conversion mode to webp format with the same quality setting (90%) and the windows explorer will not show the thumbnail! Futhermore the filesizes of the created webp files are different, although I used the same settings for quality!

In the attachment you can find the two saved webp files to compare them yourself. I resized the original psd file for you to get under the required 2 MB attachment limit.

Yes.

XnViewMP:

1. File => Open ... (select Media Harbour Race test.psd)
2. File => Export ...
3. Webp file Format => Quality=90%, Compression method =6, Filter strength= 20, Filter sharpness = 0

The produced webp file is fine.
