Please try this (slight improvement): Go to Tools → Settings → Thumbnail → Appearance → Thumbnail cell and select black as Background . Select the folder, and then View → Rebuild thumbnails...

Although I've tried all kinds of settings, I'm not able to reproduce the appearance of the folder thumbnail as seen in your screenshot. The tab (top left) is missing

Possibly related: Folder thumbnail size

Please go to Tools → Settings… → Thumbnail → Misc and activate Show 4 thumbnails in folder's thumbnail (instead of 1).
