What a waste of space. Using PNG would be advisable. After PNGOptimizing it, it takes up 11,5 KB.

No. It's not hanging. It's just pretty slow. Try with a small PNG file first (maybe less than 50KB in size).

According to Wikipedia WebP format supports lossless compression as of November 2011. It would be cool if it could be implemented. If this is done via plugin then it would not be a Pierre's task.
