Thanks for the information, I just wondering for quite some time where people got 0.76.1 :-p

Re: Req: Add 16bit tiff writing (or at least a warning)

The warning might not show if you've disabled it at some point in the past. On the settings->General page, try resetting all confirm prompts and see if that helps. Thanks, will do. Looking at ImageMagick q8 vs q16, adding 16bit results in a big speed loss - I don't know if it would be the same with...

Re: Req: Add file format settings to save dialog

Having said all that, because I have developed the habit of using the batch convert as my save-as I do not place this at a high priority. But having these slightly obscure workarounds is not good usability, especially for new users. Thanks to everyone who mentioned this possibility, I'd never got t...

Re: Req: Add 16bit tiff writing (or at least a warning)

However, XnViewMP (0.72) does display a warning when the 16-bit TIF is opened, saying that it will be converted to 8-bit. I'm in bad luck then, mine (0.75 Win64) doesn't at any time? My workflow: open 16bit tiff (either through the browser or command line), select "Save" or "Save As" ...*boom* data...

Wupps, I actually did use "search before post" but I missed that - well, another reason to get that added :-p. It adds "yet another option" in the preferences, but adding a file path dialog should be very quick to implement.

Req: Add 16bit tiff writing (or at least a warning)

While XnViewMP happily opens 16bit tiff files, when saving them it silently discards half of the data and saves as 8 bit. That's unfortunate, as esp. with a lossless format you're bound to assume that you can happily save w/o any loss of quality. Note that 16bit tiff is a very common format esp. whe...

Req: File format settings in save dialog (w/ just once opt)

When using "Save as.." the dialog behaves like a black box with no way to tell what the current settings are (crucial esp. for jpeg) and any means to change them. You need to cancel, go to "Format Settings", select the "Write" tab, search for the correct file format tab, change settings, repeat... R...

Re: Req: use system exiftool first (Win)

Having said that, I cannot personally think of an instance where I would have needed it for XnView (MP), but there could be instances where the latest camera models need newer support. I've dabbled a lot with metadata and tagging recently, and with this experience I can say that the exiftool update...

Req: use system exiftool first or specify custom path (Win)

As XnView isn't updated that frequently, a lot of newer exiftool versions get released in between. Sure, you can replace or ntfs-hard-link the exiftool-exe in the "AddOn" directory, but it's the same with XnView as with the other gazillions of apps using it. The dev of exiftool will thank you, too, ...

Re: Remember crop aspect ratio

Are they not working, or do I misunderstand? I was refering to the crop tool when initialized with the icon on the toolbar (which opens another bar ft. an aspect ratio dropdown) - that's where it always resets to free. But thanks for the pointing out other method via the menu and simply using "sele...

Remember crop aspect ratio (via crop icon/toolbar)

This is minor, but still could be optimized for a nice boost in productivity. Whenever you chose the "crop" tool, the aspect ratio defaults to "Free" even if you have set something else before. However, I guess the usual workflow is to cut (and re-cut) the same or multiple pictures to the *same* ar,...

Re: XMP metadata not shown in png

XnViewMP show me the XMP for png, so please send me one of your png file? Sure, attached. It's not unusual, I simply deleted all metadata from the files and did "exiftool -XMP-dc:Subject=Testing123 *". With these and XnViewMP, when right click on image -> Properties the xmp tab shows for the jpg, b...

Thanks, "resolved in 0.75" ... sorry for asking the obvious, where does one obtain a version newer than 0.72 which seems to be the only version linked around here? Or are you also doing release numbers for versions that are aren't public? Thanks.

Re: XMP metadata not shown in png

Do you have xmp in your png file? Absolutely, since I do multi-language tags for my photography I had to drop the whole iptc "encoding of hell" and whatnot legacy stuff and switched to multilang & utf-8 xmp. You can add xmp tags to png just like that with exiftool, and esp. in this case it's benefi...
