Yes, just as Clo also confirmed. If clicking on any menu (or on the background , as Clo said) with only one viewable file in a directory both arrow buttons become greyed . With two or more images in the folder, depending on which of the images you are viewing (which one you click on in the explorer ...

But please, whatever you do, please always keep
an option NOT to write anything into the files itself and to
instead store all rating / etc. info in XnView's own database,
as it is possible now.

But then why do the prev / next arrows become greyed out (=inactive)
when you simply click on any dropdown menu in the main menu toolbar ?

That seems mysterious to me .... does some kind of file check (whether there
is more than one file in the directory) take place when you click on a menu ?

I think that keeping

a) Default (As Pierre said)
b) Mezich (")
c) Gnome (")
d) Crystal Project (As Dreamer said)

would be ideal.

And make Mezich the default ASAP ;)

So maybe this can be changed in a future version ;) ?

No hurry needed, but I think before adding new features, small
glitches such as this one should be corrected first :bugconfirmed:

My point is, the settings are all there when you select "export..." ... thats fine ;) For the sake of consistency, they should also be in the Write--->JPEG options.... so that you could also set what you want to be used when you use the "save" or "save as" commands. Again, the necessary code already...

Re: Right but…

Strangely, when you then click on any dropdown menu, the
buttons then become greyed out and inactive.

Does this also happen for you ?

Seeing that Mezich will be default in the future makes me happy :) Thanks.

I agree that some of the most unprofessional / childish skins could
be removed and be available as separate downloads.

Thx. Yes, the DCT method should be selectable in the JPEG writing options, too. As the necessary code is already in the program, adding the same dropdown box there should be a piece of cake :P Oh, and "Smoothing Factor" could also be there (I dont use it, but for the sake of consistency and complete...

1.91.5: Prev / Next buttons active if only 1 file in dir

Minor cosmetic bug, steps to reproduce: 1) There is only one, single viewable file (e.g. example.jpg) in a directory. 2) Open the file in XnView's viewer by double-clicking in the explorer 3) The arrow buttons Previous file / Next file on the toolbar are active and clickable, though nothing happens ...

Use the Mezich Skin as default

There has been a poll in the past where most people voted for the Mezich skin as the best default. I want to reintroduce that suggestion, as I think that the Mezich skin is by far the most clean and professional looking one. No, seriously, it should be a no-brainer, because it is just soo much bette...

XnView uses same JPEG encoder as GIMP ?

When saving JPEGs with exactly the same settings from XnView and from GIMP, the filesize is identical to the last byte. Do XnView and GIMP use the same JPEG encoder library ? If yes , then an option to select the DCT method when saving JPEGs (as in GIMP) would be nice. Or, just use Floating-Point in...

"keep date/time for saving" checked by default ?

Minor suggestion / change:

GENERAL --> File Operations --> "keep date/time for saving"

Is checked by default. Wouldn't it be better if it was unchecked
by default ? Because the normal, default behaviour of most applications
in general is that saving a file changes its date and time ....

I think that the overlay should be shown always if an image has an embedded thumbnail, regardless of the fact the thumbnail is then used by the browser or not... Yes, yes and yes, I also think so ;) I just installed 1.91.5, and after playing around with it, I also found that behaviour annoying (I a...
